Did You Know Hypnosis Works For Easy Memory Recall?

There are many professional and academic reasons for needing easy recall of what you have memorized. Students, sales professionals, business owners, doctors, police officers, however the one profession that can most benefit from memory recall is Actors.

Recently I had the opportunity to present how hypnosis helps with memory recall to a group of actors associated with the Dallas Film Circle at KD Conservancy in Dallas TX.

When it comes to memorizing information or scripts in the case of actors, sometimes they can and sometimes they can’t. Why that is is the question we explored.

We have heard that every thing we have read, heard, seen or experienced is stored somewhere in the brain. Although really meaningless stuff is released and painful stuff can be repressed. The brain prefers something interesting or emotional to associate with the stuff to be remembered. And while the multiplications tables are not necessarily interesting or emotional, we did it so much, due to the Law of Concentrated Attention, we learned them and remember them decades later.

Quick what is 6×7?

In the case of actors if a script is tough to recall, is there an association that is not favorable with the role or part being asked to play? Or, is there something personal going on that has hijacked the focus? The Law of Dominate Effect in hypnosis states that when the emotion that is associated with a thing, person or event is strong (has one captivated) that emotion will create an action or response that maybe counter to the conscious desire.

Hypnosis not only helps with recall, but strengthens one’s confidence.

If you have bombed out of something, the feeling or emotion associated will probably be the perceived future outcome (remember the Law of Dominate Effect?). Using hypnosis to strengthen confidence helps to overcome any blocks related to past mistakes. We do this by remembering and creating a strong emotion for the desire wanted and also using past successful experiences. Doing so strengthens the memory of confidence and in addition plants the idea of perceived success in the future.

The National Library of Medicine listed an paper on Memory and Hypnosis. Here is its description of memory and its function:

Memory is the faculty of the mind that encodes, stores and retrieves information, and it is fundamental in the development of personal identity (Baddeley, 2013). While some degree of forgetting in general is part of normal memory function (Jasnow et al., 2012; Murayama et al., 2014; Williams et al., 2013), significant memory deficits may be related to age-related cognitive decline (e.g., dementia; Jahn, 2013), emotional or physical trauma (Van Der Kolk, 1998), or interference in memory processing due to poor mental health (such as depression, attention deficit, or emotional distress; Martinussen et al., 2005; Tyng et al., 2017).

Next, I led the group through several direct suggestion hypnotic mini sessions to recall a past success, to imagine a future success and to strengthen their desire. The addition of a post hypnotic suggestion based on an image they created was used to reinforce the suggestions.

The group is not napping because my talk was boring.

If you need to improve your memory or recall, hypnosis may be the way.
