HOW TO CREATE PEACE AND RELEASE STRESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS

HYPNOTIST SHARES 5 IDEAS TO HELP YOU HAVE A PEACEFUL AND STRESS FREE HOLIDAY SEASON

I saw Christmas lights in my neighborhood, but it was the Sunday before Thanksgiving and instead of thinking, ahhh isn’t that pretty, I thought, “darn, it is the holidays again,” and felt a tightening in my belly. Admit it, you feel it too.

So what was happening? Stress Effects the Body.

The tightening that I felt was my body responding to the memory of previous holidays and a natural response that is coming from the primitive mind: fight or flight response. My belly is saying: this is not good, please run the other way. But we don’t, we dive in and move forward with all the decorations, shopping, etc. and more than likely choose to eat more and drink more alcohol than normal as an attempt at quelling the uneasy feeling. The problem with that is the physiological effect the stressor is putting on your body is still present.

What can you do to deal with holiday stress?

FIRST, Take charge, so this year will be different. You can change your mindset that changes the outcome.

In this article I will share with you 5 tips on how you can release the pressures of the holiday season.

TIP ONE
LEARN HOW TO CONTROL HOLIDAY TRIGGERS

What holiday event triggers an unhealthy behavior in you?

-Worries about finances, how you’ll afford gifts for your kids?
-Being invited to party after party and tempted with alcohol and dessert spreads?
-What about the thought of being with that cousin or aunt or mother in law that you don’t get a long with?

Well, I can teach you to change those triggers so that you are in control of your responses.

Being invited to party after party and tempted with alcohol?
The dessert buffet?
A dinner party?

Those thoughts and the actual events create a trigger meaning they trigger an old feeling and an old response. So I will teach you to change those triggers so that you are in control of your responses and manage your stress and anxiety.

TIP TWO

LEARN HOW TO DISTANCE YOURSELF FROM DIFFICULT PEOPLE

The holiday cards say, wishing you a peaceful and joyful season— does that work? It is a good suggestion, but it doesn’t always breakthrough the clutter to get to our deep inner mind so it can have a lasting effect, like when we have to be around difficult people or around people that once hurt us we can instead of being angry or hurt or defensive and eating or drinking to much we can transcend to that peaceful joyful wonderland on the card, or float away on a cloud. How do you do this?

Create a new response that you can use on the go to stop or deter neg feelings in these situations:

  • Rude people at stores, malls, driving
  • Family members that remind you of unresolved issues?
  • Ex-wives, ex-husbands?
  • Out of town guests staying in your home?
  • People out shopping or driving?

What people or situations trigger an unhealthy response in you?

Well, I can teach you to change those so that you are in control of your responses and manage your stress and anxiety.

TIP THREE RELEASING THE IDEA OR BELIEF ABOUT THE PAST

Learning how to let go of temptations/negative beliefs/counter productive behaviors by releasing into the imaginary fire pit.

If you are dreading the holidays because you are worried you’ll gain weight, then re-train your brain. Learn a technique that removes old beliefs and ideas and that lasts long after your holiday trimmings are packed away.

What unhealthy ideas or beliefs to you partake in over the holiday season?

Take a moment and make a mental list of those preconceived ideas –

  • you will gain weight
  • that the holidays are stressful, no time for you
  • that you HAVE to send cards, you HAVE to make cookies
  • you will drink Baileys and coffee all day
  • baking fudge and then eating it
  • drinking too much at a party
  • eating candy at work

Now, consider if that really has to be true for you.
Does that support your desire to have a peaceful and joyful and healthy holiday?
Does that support your desire to have a fit and trim body?
Does that support your desire to not gain over the holiday?

Aren’t those just ideas?

The idea is really just that, an idea, a belief, something you learned and anything you learned you can unlearn.

TIP FOUR

Creativity to release stress, be a kid again

Creativity is The Best Way To Deal With Stress During the Holidays

Creativity is an outlet for stress relief, think about it, how can you feel stressed out with finger paints all over your hands, or making a candy cane reindeer for the tree, or making other crafts?

You can’t.

So, what are you waiting for? Release your inner creative child.

Recall a memory of the holiday season from childhood. Doesn’t that bring a smile? Notice how excited you were. How you felt physically, that quickened pace of your heart.

That memory is easily accessed and enjoyed. Now recall a time when you were creative: Painting, drawing, signing, dancing, when you were lost in what you were doing. I remember playing my “blue plastic electric organ and singing along.” I really thought I was talented and no one could have told me different, I was tapped into that beautiful, fanciful place, that creative mind of a child. Go there now and tap into that spirit, look with delight at the lights, the colors, the beauty of nature, hear with new ears, feel the joys of gratitude for all that is around you and available to you.

So if you don’t like the way your season is going then TAKE CHARGE,

Create new traditions – allow your mind to be open and creative, connect to that imaginative child within.

Holidays can be fun for parents/adults too, here are some ideas:

  • At your gathering have everyone make an easy craft (Reindeer candy canes are easy and my personal favorite)Get outside: go for a hike at a state park or a walk at your neighborhood park, notice what makes winter, winter.
  • Simplify the holiday meal, what about turkey sandwiches and soup?
  • Get out family albums and tell stories about “the creative kiddos.”
  • String popcorn for the tree.
  • Build a fire and have 30 minutes of silence, singing or story-telling.
