Is Hypnosis Dangerous? Find Out the Benefits and Risks You Need to Know

Separate Fact and Fiction When It Comes to the Truths and Myths About How Hypnosis Can Help You

“I saw it on Tiktok.”

Even after all these years, the internet—social media, in particular— is still the Wild West. While it’s an amazing (and endless) resource when it comes to recipes, decorating inspiration, beauty hacks, and funny animal clips, the quick draw viewpoints on Tiktok, YouTube, and Instagram can leave you overwhelmed and under-informed.

Especially when it comes to the true benefits and dangers of hypnosis.

So, what is the truth about hypnosis when there is so much misinformation floating around?

Hypnosis has been hugely beneficial when it comes to helping people deal with the deep-seated issues that plague them. This is why it continues to be a popular and powerful tool after all this time.

The real danger is when it’s misused and abused by untrained hands. That’s the risk one runs when taking the advice of self-proclaimed “experts” who have neither the experience nor the nuanced knowledge of how to use hypnosis effectively.

Shift the question, Is Hypnosis Dangerous to: How can hypnosis benefit me?

When used in a professional setting with a trained specialist, there’s no end to the benefits of hypnosis. Let’s dig into the ways hypnosis can help you.

Its main function is to change behavioral patterns. That can include anything from anxiety to how you deal with stress to releasing limiting beliefs. You can also shift your subconscious enough to stop smoking or make positive changes for a healthier lifestyle.

The first step is to be able to identify the key issues at hand. When working with a trained hypnotist, it can be done quickly because they know the exact questions to ask to get to the heart of the issue immediately.

The process begins with the hypnotist bringing you into a relaxed state to more easily explore your subconscious. That’s when they can start to identify the emotional blind spots preventing you from breaking free of destructive patterns and moving forward.

For instance, perhaps there was a painful memory from the past that brings on feelings of resentment, anxiousness or stress. A hypnotist can “rewire” your subconscious so the next time you recall that same memory, you have a completely new perspective, one that is free from the heart-wrenching associations it once had for you.

Another major benefit of hypnosis is that it can produce an incredibly rapid transformation without the use of medication. For example, if you’re plagued by anxiety and don’t want to become reliant on prescription drugs, hypnosis is ideal because it gets to the root cause of your issues as quickly as possible so you can move on without any lingering effects.

In fact, a hypnotist can work so efficiently to help you make these natural changes that you don’t have to worry about the ongoing commitment of typical therapies i.e., weekly appointments.

The best part of hypnosis—and truly the main benefit— is that you are the catalyst for the change you want to see in your life. Your mind is your most powerful tool, and it can help you accomplish goals that may have once seemed impossible, but rest assured, they are definitely within your reach.

Hypnosis allows you to be guided and supported on the road to becoming your most dynamic self. By working with a trusted practitioner, you can harness the strength to release yourself from old patterns and destructive thoughts to make real progress. You’re not alone on this journey and can feel safe and secure as you show your old habits the door.

You hold all the potential for the life you want in your mind. Maybe you’ve heard that we only use 10% of our mind power. Well, working with the right person allows you to access the other 90%. That robust engine is at your disposal to make meaningful change while letting go of outdated beliefs and habits.

The more one wants to change, the more effective hypnosis becomes.

Is hypnosis dangerous?

The short answer? No, hypnosis is not dangerous.

No harm can come from hypnosis that is applied by a professional.  Currently, there’s no governing board or authority. The groups that do offer certification have their own benchmarks for determining their version of “professional” as well as their own titling and wording.

I’ve been on the receiving end of many inquiries from those who have suffered after working with inexperienced hypnotists.

I recently had a desperate phone call from a young lady who used a hypnosis video found on YouTube video for weight loss. There was some power in that video because she had completely stopped eating and began to drop to an unhealthy weight. She was panicked and frantic when she called me for help.

When I suggested the appropriate number of sessions and the associated fees, she became angry and wondered why she had to pay me for something someone else did to her. I told her to contact the creator of the video. She said she had tried to find the YouTube “guru,” but she had mysteriously disappeared. Hmmm, I wonder why . . .

This is why it’s so important to find an experienced practitioner instead of relying on social media for insight.

If you want to try hypnosis for the first time, it’s crucial that you do your research and ask questions about the amount of training a practitioner has had. Most professional programs require a minimum of 300 hours of training.

Many people are fearful of hypnosis because they believe a hypnotist can make you do things you don’t want to do. Visions of clucking like a chicken come to mind. That’s just a myth put forth by movies and television. The truth is that hypnosis cannot make you do anything you don’t want to do. You are in control of yourself during the sessions.

Another myth is that “false memories” can be implanted into your subconscious. That’s simply not true. No reputable hypnotist would resort to doing something so unscrupulous and harmful.

There’s a trend of wanting to delve into past lives through hypnosis. Many people are hoping that their current—or even potential—lover is somehow woven into their past, and therefore, their future destiny is tied together. While it’s fun to think about, it’s not a responsible or even truthful use of hypnosis. Anyone who promises such a discovery should be avoided at all costs.

You know the old adage . . . If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Again, remember that research is your best friend when it comes to choosing the right hypnotist to guide you to making profound changes in your life. The right one can help you use the advantages of hypnosis to its fullest potential and avoid the pitfalls that do more harm than good.

How we do it:

Does this hypnosis look dangerous

The Flow Center’s program has been helping people for decades who want to banish their self-defeating thoughts and habits and transform their lives:

Journey deep into your subconscious: You’ll be guided into a deeply relaxed state that lets all other thoughts fall away so your mind can focus. This allows your subconscious to be more receptive to suggestion. The hypnotist will begin to unlock issues that have prevented you from experiencing self-acceptance and bring them to the surface.

Create new lovable habits for yourself: The hypnotist will then reprogram your old internal belief system and rewire it to accept self-love. This new “coding” will allow you to transform the way you see, respond, and attach meaning to your issues. Instead of the negative emotions and patterns you once had, you’ll be able to create new and lovable habits surrounding the way you see yourself.

Develop new positive and loving beliefs:  The voices in your head telling you that you’re not enough will be silenced. No more beating yourself up. Instead, you’ll have effortless kindness and respect for the amazing person you already are. You’ll be able to step confidently into new habits that celebrate all your strengths and see your old habits with more compassion as they depart from your life.

Imagine a future where it is all possible: You’ll be able to take more chances now that  nothing is holding you back. Boldly embrace a new mindset where the opportunities open to you are endless. Nothing is beyond you. In fact, success is at the forefront of your mind.

Additionally, imagine a future where you break the cycle of negative thinking, so your children don’t have to go through what you did.

See the benefits of self-love: The result is a gentle and effective ability to return to your natural love for yourself. It’s always been there, but it eroded over time when those negative beliefs crept in. Now that you’ve released those feelings, you have more space to allow your self-esteem to blossom.

Hypnosis gives you the power to steer your mind.

It may not seem like it from the various representations of hypnosis in the media, but you are definitely in the driver’s seat. A hypnotist can guide you through your subconscious and help you to rewire it, but, ultimately, you must be motivated to do so.

The benefits and dangers of hypnosis highlighted here should help you to understand the awesome tool available to you for changing your life for the better.

Don’t let more of your life go by without living it the way you want. Use hypnosis to break free from the limiting beliefs holding you back and live life on your terms.
